Paintings: “Chance and Spontaneity”

Sometimes I feel too caught up with trying to create a specific genre or subject matter with my
paintings. This time I decided to let go of the thinking process and allow positive and negative
spaces to occur on their own. Starting with spontaneous motions with my arm I apply a paint/ink dilution onto paper or board and allow gravity to move the pigment as I turn the surface in various directions. The most interesting thing I have found about these pieces is that when I
look at them I do not know where the first mark was created or where the last stroke ended.
